ErskyTx section

Why? It appears to be such an obscure format.

I don't see how it would support the efforts of Aloft Hobbies.
But for now, seeing how obscure it is and that it looks to be a Hobby King product line, it appears that any discussion about ErSky under general radio would be appropriate.

There appears to be a dead thread (no activity since 2014) on RCForum

Your reply shows exactly why a thread is needed!
erskyTx is an open source firmware for transmitters (it is shipped as an option on the FrSky X9Lite). It is NOT obscure, indeed many users prefer it to openTx.
History:
The 9X transmitter had TH9X written for it, that was then developed as er9x. open9X was forked from er9x. The SKY upgrade board, with an Atmel ARM processor was produced for the 9X. ersky9x was then created for this, and openTx was created to support the ARM processor as well. As other radios became available I renamed ersky9x to erskyTx.
The 9XR-PRO was a HobbyKing product that used a main board developed from the SKY board, and shipped with ersky9x installed.

erskyTx runs on nearly all FrSky radios as well as other makes.
It does support the efforts of Aloft. I have seen new users give up on a FrSky radio because they don't "get on" with openTx. These users may well find erskyTx more suitable as it is easier to use then openTx, while still having all the power of things like "everything is a mix".
Some new features in openTx actually appear in erskyTx first, e.g. the reporting of the RTC battery voltage.
Some example displays of erskyTx (QX7):

Mike, Welcome to Aloft's Forum.

Your technical prowess will be much appreciated here.

Now doing a Google search I did not find much activity for the ErSky program. I assume that this is an indication of its relevance in the market place. I still fail to see that it, as of yet, needs its own forum heading. I think it would still be adequately covered under general.

Now I admit I have a very poor track record for understanding market forces.

Wayne might see things differently. But as a forum user I don't see the need for another heading.

All the best,
Konrad

Perhaps you don't see so much erskyTx activity because it is easier to use than openTx, so far fewer questions need to be asked?
As a direct alternative to FrOs and openTx, as well as being shipped on at least one FrSky radio, I reckon it should have its own section.

Mike - We would be honored to host a forum for erskyTx here.

Mike, I'm excited to see you here. IMHO we all owe you a debt for the changes you have brought to our RC aviation hobby. I don't care what radio anyone may use, I think your efforts in this hobby has made an impact on all companies and forced them to make their products better, just to keep up.

Mike - I have added the new ErskyTx section. You may want to start off with a thread that introduces folks to it. Maybe cover a bit of the history and then mention what radios it works with and how it compares to other options out there. We can then pin the thread. I honestly don't think many FrSky users are aware they have this option. :) Oh yeah, and introduce yourself. :)

Glad to see an erskyTx section. Was considering going to Taranis radios, but have discovered that OpenTx is not for me.
I have been using er9x (at an admittedly low level) for a few years now, and am able to do what I need with it. Very important for an analog guy trying to get by in a digital world.
OpenTx has the great graphics, and more functionality (both do, actually) than I will ever use, but I would rather be building and flying planes than learning a new radio firmware.
Both are clearly superior to menu driven systems in my thinking, even though my requirements don't require the capability they possess.

I will vouch for Mike, I've worked with him before and found him to be not only very capable, but quick and willing to help.

Aloft Hobbies is where I prefer to trade for rc glider stuff, and this just makes it one step easier for me.

I could use some help getting vario telemetry set up between a Radiomaster T16X using erskyTx and a Lemon 7ch DSMP Telemetry receiver.
Hoping for vertical speed up/down tones and AGL altitude readout on screen.

Anybody out there have experience with this combination and willing to express a general tutorial?

First, in the telemetry menu (Telemetry|Telemetry), you may like to set "DSM 'A' as RSSI" on, as the Lemon receivers usually use the 'A' value as RSSI on a scale of 0 to 100.
For the Vario, select the telemetry menu, then Vario from the popup (Telemetry|Vario).
Set the Source to "vspd".
Set the switch to "ON" or to a switch you wish to use to enable the vario tones.
Try setting the Sensitivity to 3 to start with. The higher the value the less sensitive are the tones.
Leave the frequency values at 0.
The tone volume may be set to "Vol" to use the normal volume setting, or to a specific value (1-23).
The sink ones may be turned off by ticking the Sink Tones option.

On the DSMP Rx I just tested, I notice the vspd value does jump around a bit, so even with the Rx stationary, the vario beeps occasionally. reducing the sensitivity (increasing the value) stops this, but then you may not detect slow rise and fall speeds.
