Egg On My Face!

This is embarrassing!

I had just upgraded all my S8R receivers to ACCST v2.1.x and every thing went as it should. Thinking that, that was easy I should update my S6R receivers. Well, I got all sorts of errors and weird LED flashes. Being as these were 5 or more years old RXs I "KNEW" that the problem had to be FrSky's with some unknown protocol incompatibility. (Ok, it was late and I didn't want to go through a whole night of troubleshooting). So in the morning, I packed up my whole system and darkened Aloft's door with the cry for help.

Jarron and the crew humored me and simply ran the upgrade process. And lo and behold it worked the first time. The crew at Aloft had a hard time keeping a straight face. As I was perplexed as to why it worked for them and not me. Well, Chris couldn't hold it in any longer and said; that I had the cable plugged in upside down. The S6R has the pin call outs backwards to most of the other RXs. As I had just done 1/2 a dozen S8R I got myself into the trap of seeing the pin call out as being the same between both the S6R and S8R. Had I stopped to read and UNDERSTOOD what I saw, it was clear that the pins on the S6R are placed with the neg pin close to the front label. (Most radios place the signal pin close to the front label).

I know it is weak but my excuse was that it was late last night.

I'm glad the crew got a good laugh at my expense as I had it coming, for NOT reading and understanding what I read. FrSky clearly labeled the pins. And when using the pins as called out the update went as it should.

All the best,

Konrad

Life wasn't meant to be easy but just go with it and have a laugh, I bet you will never do that again. Put it down to a learning experience.

Oh, I’ll do it many more times. That is why I’m always reassessing my assumptions.

Now I have to ask why Frsky felt they had to deviate from the norm. I’d have assumed that putting the face sticker on the other side would have brought the pin assignment in line with established norms.

Its alright Konrad! You would not believe what we have to deal with now and then... A lot of customers would have tried to blame us somehow anyway...
I'm just happy that it wasn't something more serious!
Cheers!
