DeHavilland Swallow PSS?

Still mulling a PSS model...I didn't want to muscle in to Red's ME163 thread too much, though I already did  so I thought I'd start a new one.

What about a Glass Fuselage/Foam wing - probably vac bagged - DeHavilland Swalow 108 PSS? Like the ME163 it has a fair bit of wing area. The Fuse could be moulded top to bottom instead of the usual side to side which would make the wings easy to attach/align with a simple carbon rod/pegs. Then, even at 50" span the whole disassembled model would fit into a pretty small narrow space.

The model if made would benefit from a slight change in the centre line position and wing root angle, and it probably wouldn't need it but I'd probably make a couple of vac-formed clear covers to go over the root air intakes just to clean it up a bit more.

Small, portable, simple to make, and with the right aeros should fly very well indeed.

What do you guys think?

Hold on guys - I never said I'd make a Vampire/venom.

Its overcomplicated for a simple PSS - I'm looking for KISS.

Lol I was just replying that I thought the plane in the picture is the Vampire. I like the Swallow much better. it has cooler lines

Looks like the center section fuse is similar. @Doc J can we go with 'same, center section and just make it a option to build either one - or both (Swallow/Venom/vampire)?
GP - the DH108 Swallow fuse might look similar to the Venom/vampire (which are almost identical to each other) but actually its pretty different. No chance of one fuse three models I'm afraid.

Sure there is.... Just draw it that way...
I am going to assume these are shipping in a week.... Sooo... Ill take one of each.
:ROFLMAO:

Oooh! I like.

Interestingly the the dh108 did share main fuselage with the vampire, but with an extended/longer section to accommodate the fin. Personally I like the blunter nose and all clear canopy of the 1st prototype. I’m guessing the pointer sleeker nose and partially more frame-clad canopy is the 2nd prototype

Hey M - got any pics of the protoptype?

Thanks for the history - On the fuse, - I didnt know that, but it sure makes sense after the war, when there was a long period of austerity in the UK.

DeHav's still wanted to keep up development with the steady flow of exciting new info coming from a sacked German Aviation industry. Must have been a bit frustrating with all that good stuff and not much money to spend on developing it. My Dad worked for Hawkers and thats what he told me.

Good stuff!

That's the one! Very slightly different wing sweep angles between the 1st and 2nd prototypes too, according to wikipedia.
Interesting - this image shows the blunt nose but with more framing and cladding for the aft canopy section. I think I like the one with more see thru parts.

Thanks guys!

Below is some more including a small model.

I think a fuselage moulded with a sideways seam line including those massive root/vertical stab fairings and plug in Balsa or other (Glass Vac bagged?) veneered wings and vertical stab would do it. Canopy section removable to allow radio access etc. With a good wing section and maybe flaperons? I dont think separate Ailerons/flaps would be easy to set up, but I'm not too sure. Any inputs welcome!

Doc, I split the molds on this one horizontally. For sure makes the layup so much easier, like a boat.

Gotcha - thanks Red. Like the DH 108 your BWB would be a bit of a PITA to mould vertically!

Cheers,

Doc.
