Try as I might I can't get the flying covering, aloft sells,to stick. I've tried temps from 100c to 150 with no luck. I've tried different pieces of clean wood. It looks like it should stick but comes loose as soon as iron is removed.
Any fixes available?
Did you remove the INCREDIBLY CLEAR backing from the film? All of the film has a protective backing on the adhesive side that has to be removed. Sometimes it is very difficult to see and remove. You have to kind of crinkle it up on an edge or use an x-acto knife to pick at it and get it to peel up. I have done this also. I thought I had removed it. No matter how much you try it won’t stick!
What Kelly said is true. A lot of people don't realize that there is a backer.
An easier way to remove the backing SOMETIMES is to use 2 pieces of masking tape. One on each side near the edge and pull apart. This usually works well for me.
I do my initial stick down around 100c, 200f and than i come back at 280f when all done to shrink.
i have these numbers from the instructions on some Parklite hangar 9 ultracote and have been using them on the aloft colored covering now for a couple years and it works great.
It can be difficult to remove the backing. I use a small piece of blue painters tape on each side of a corner to pull it apart. Once I start to pull the backing off I try and make sure that the stickly side does not touch itself as it will stick itself together especially in a warm environment. Once the backing is remover this covering lays quite flat on the surface to be covered. It will start to stick at a very low temperature around 200 F. Use as low a temperature as possible to get it properly located. It actually sticks very well but is also easier to remove than UC which may leave adhesive residue.
