Its funny I'm taking a break from rc gliders also time for some control line speed planes
No Kits PNCDoc will you sell me a kit
Hoops? - You mean the laminated wingtips?@Doc J I really love the way you did some of the molds for this. Not many guys using Teak (looks like) for that purpose!
Could you and @Konrad maybe comment on how you do the laminated hoops. It looks pretty straight forward but then that often is rather deceptive.
I have to say how much respect I have for both of your build skills. I meant to compliment him on his super clean and precise building skills and ask Konrad over in his Sparky build thread to share his process on the hoops. I have pretty decent balsa build skills but not at this level and I have never built a model that required that particular skill. Well done gentleman!!

Yes.Hoops? - You mean the laminated wingtips?
Doc
OK First I made the wood wings and tailplanes the attached the 1/4" leading and trailing edges. Then I slit up some of the same wood to about 1~1.5mm thickness and put the pieces in boiling water. After that it was soft enough to bend easily around the tips so I just laminated them up with Titebond glue and taped them.Yes.![]()
Hi Kelly,That is pretty simple. What would be the difference in using room temp water? How long it would take to soften? Just curious.
The finished model is just absolutely beautiful. Love the combo of exposed and painted surface. This type of plane is what I was used to seeing at the model shop when I was a kid. Good times.
Hi Kelly - the difference between conrol line and gliders could not really be understated. EVERYTHING is different and for completely different reasons.Doc and anyone else into control line models: I've been wondering about the design of CL models. For instance what is the design theory, why is the fuselage always so short (faster response?), why are the wings usually short and have a wide root, etc...
Kelly
It seems like everything from aspect ratio to fuse length is 180* different than gliders.Hi Kelly - the difference between conrol line and gliders could not really be understated. EVERYTHING is different and for completely different reasons.
I'll not go into the mechanics of CL flight here, but suffice its to say it a complex, but almost unknown subject.
Cheers,
Doc.
