CN Models 25mm Z hub Collet spinner

Konrad

Very Strong User
I'm finding that the CN Models 25mm spinner with Z hub is turning out to be very practical in many of my smaller light F5-RES and F5K models. I did find a minor problem with the CN Models 7x4 blade and the spinner. That is the spinner keeps the blades from fully opening up. This caused a massive vibration on one of my test runs. The solution is to relieve a bit of the spinner to allow free motion of the blade. I didn't need to remove much material, just enough to allow the blade to come up over center (Swing Forward) if need be.

All the best,
Konrad

P.S.
I see these are not up on the site.

Konrad,

I have one of the bigger CN spinners 30 mm I think and it had to have the same relief cut when I used aero naut blades.

I like the metal nose of the 25 mm one in the picture. One thing I’m not impressed with is the plastic spinner being used to pull the collet up against. I’d much prefer to have the collet threaded on the od and pull it tight against the yoke using a nut then use the screw to hold just the spinner on. But that’s just me. I don’t have pictures sorry.

Yes, I think we talk about this on our product page for the 30 and 32mm spinners from them, they will need a bit of fitting for the blade. Probably something they can sort out with time.

I don't know about the larger spinners. But the 25mm spinner has the draw nut pull against the collet and yoke directly. The plastic spinner cone is loosely held captive. These cones do hold the blade retention pins in place.

Konrad,

The bigger spinners aren’t like that. They use a single soc head screw to pull the collet into the yoke and against the plastic spinner. It works fine but the 25 mm looks a better design.

I have not run my spinner yet I’m hoping to start that glider around Christmas.

The 255mm really is small, but needed to handle a 5mm threaded shaft that is common on the quad motors most people are using. The hubs are smaller too.

I like the CN spinners a fair amount. Good over all design, just wish the plastic was nicer. I think this is something they are working on. :)

As is typical for me I appear to be an outlier on the Gaussian curve.
I'm using a motor that has a 2mm shaft. And I actually like the look of the high fiber plastic.

I'm thinking I might need to get one of the larger Spinner just to see what the other design looks like.

Something to be aware of is that the 25mm CN Models spinner uses 2mm pivot pins. For the last 2 decades 3mm has been the norm. To use Aeronaut bladed you will in all likelihood need to bush the pin holes from 3mm down to 2mm. Unfortunately I didn't find any K&S tubing that does this.

Yes, the 25mm is for electric DLG and other very small aircraft. It uses small hub small pin blades. The other CN spinners are normal sized pins and hub. We will spell that out on the site soon.

With the 25mm spinner here is something to be aware of when notching blade clearance in the plastic spinner. One must leave material over the clevis arms (yoke) to keep the spinner in position axially. Only notch the spinner to the green line. Leave the spinner material between the green and red line. Same for the other side of the blade (if needed).

Thanks, too bad I'm using a brand of motor you don't carry. Really I didn't want to keep showing Hacker, the motor just seemed to cog that way.
