Carbon Falcon

Looks like the parts are 3d-printed; I've got access to a resin printer, any chance of a print-your-own kit for those on a budget (or to make repairs)?
 
We pretty much give away the 3D prints on these, the labor is in the sail construction and cost of materials. We also pay a royalty fee to the original designer as that is the correct thing to do.

Should you manage to break a part, just let us know, replacement parts are free for a year. I doubt you will break anything though, it is a very resilient design.
 
We finally had a little break in the weather and went to our rather small local park for some quick flying in breezy conditions. I imagine most of you have a bigger flying site. :)

We kept the real audio so folks can experience how quiet our suggested gear is. :) We will have to talk less next time we are recording.. LOL

It looked rather becalmed. I didn't see any of the tree leaves moving. I know that isn't anywhere near the wind limit for these wings.

Yes, these can thermal. But no, they don't have a great glide slope
 
They are the most fun with the little prop turning. :)

It was rather breezy, you will hear the wind noise on the audio. We wanted to leave the real audio so people would see how quiet they are, and we wanted to show them flying in a rather tiny little park.

We have a really pretty water front area I think we might use for our next video. If we land out we will be testing to see if they float or not. I think they will..?

How does it behave with motor off? Is it too light to glide well, or can it catch lift?
Flew mine again today (Only second, brief flight) so still setting up, throws/cg etc however can definitely confirm it needs 'some' power. even 10% increases the glide a lot and makes it a lot more stable.
 
First attempt at flight went about as I expected - it promptly nosedived. Second flight, I adjusted the trim for more upward deflection on the wingtips and got similar results. Decided to try starting with lots of pitch-up on the stick to see if I could get it high enough to stabilize, but it went inverted and I lost orientation pretty quickly. I killed throttle and managed to get it to mostly pancake from about 5-6m high, but as I walked up, I found it had snapped the left leading-edge spar just past the spreader joint. I'm a bit surprised, as it didn't seem that hard or fast a hit.
 
Please send us an email (contact@alofthobbies.com) and we will send you replacement parts free. Yes, free. Just include the details on the parts needed. I'm also surprised you managed to brake it, it is a tough frame!

Please follow the direction for the model setup. With the correct setup and CG the Falcon will fly very nicely. Without the correct washout the plane will do both of the things you experienced. too much elevator will result in tip stalls, and too little and she will dive to the ground.
 
My printer decided not to give me the end of the doc with the CG and setup instructions, so that didn't help! Just checked the online version thinking there'd been an update, but I just didn't have those pages printed. I do wonder if something may have happened to the tube during shipping, as the box was a bit bent. Perhaps I didn't inspect closely enough during assembly.

Would be interested to see how others have mounted their electronics (ESC, RX) to compare notes.
 
Thanks for the feedback! I was curious how one could have such a bad experience with these. Not following the direction would do it. Wayne will make you whole.

I’m going to look at the manual and see it there is a page count. This might help others to ensure that they are working from a fully set of instructions. In one of my jobs I developed repairs for turbine parts. I can say writing the instructions was the most difficult part of repair development.

P.S.
I wonder if the word processor can add a page count, like page XX of YY. Add a few blanks at the end for “growth” with the statement like Intentionally Left Blank.

For what it's worth, it wasn't a bad experience (aside from the break) - I just thought there was more work to do in balancing/trim.
 
It probably would be good to have a suggestion on the first page to make sure that you have all ## pages of the manual...
