First post here, then back to lurking...
My wife and I are planning an extended road trip from Kansas City to the western edge of Idaho to visit my sister. I want to take a plane and used this as an excuse to purchase a quick build Carbon Falcon. My thinking says a section of PVC tubing would be great protection from coolers and luggage.
Assembly went well up to the point of installing the rubber bands. That’s when I found the left leading edge tube didn’t have a notch in its fitting.
I emailed Aloft Hobbies about the problem early in the morning and parts are on the way. In the meantime, I considered temporary fixes and came up with something workable.
This is a section of bamboo skewer drilled through the center with a piece of the carbon fiber rod CA glued in the hole. Cut the skewer short, filed a notch, and coated with thin CA to harden the bamboo. After a few hours drying, my fix looks functional.
I’m still deciding how to mount the receiver and ESC. Once that’s done, it’s time for glide testing.
Here's a suggestion for Aloft. The wall hanger is neat and I may use it if I can find wall space in the basement. Why not give it a second purpose by laser cutting notches at the recommended warperon deflections?
