Can't update my FrSkyX20S

I disconnected te uSB cable from the radio. Now the radio won't turn on. I am going downstairs to my shop and check the battery. THis radio has been a major headache since I bought it! If I had known I;d have these problems, I would have bought a Spektrum radio instead. I am very familiar with Spektrum radios and have an NX 6 radio. I bought this for the increase in channels.

I jusat notice another problem. This radio has een setting idle on shelf in my computer room and hasn't been hnndled or touchedfor over a month and I noticed three of the switches are loose and two are minus the nuts that hold them in place! I checked the shelf but they are nowhere to be found! Can I replace them and where would I obtain the nuts from? Just one more headache I have had with this radio!
I think they were there originaly!I never noticed they were gone before.

The nuts don't undo them selves, Aloft will have switch replacements. If you send the radio to aloft they can correct all of your isssues in one go.

Thanks Henny! I just need the small circular fastener parts, the switches all work otherwise
Do you have an address to send it to?

Can anyone explain to me how to update the latest bootloader?
Thankyou!
I have attached the X20S boot loader 1.4.15. Unzip it and copy it on to the SD card in the root directory. Turn your road on, go to the system menu click on file manager and find the just copied boot loader and run it to flash it to the radio, turn the radio off. After flashing hold the right hand scroll wheel center button down and power up the radio, you should now be in boot loader mode, the boot loader version will be displayed top right of screen.

Ed - Just send us your radio and we will get it sorted out for you. The firmware updating is free, but if you need some parts might be some expenses for that. I have not seen or heard of anyone losing switch nuts!

I have done this as described, and nothing has happened, I am still on bootloader version 1.4.12
I turn the radio on, plug in the USB find file manager and touch the SD, then extract the files . I unplug the uSB, Then turn thr radio off and then holding the lower right scroll wheel and turn the radio back on, and i am still on version 1.4.12
When I go to file manager I do not see the downloaded files anywhere. Am I missing a step?
A buddy of mine who builds radios has switch nuts, so that's no problem.

Why do this? Everytime there is an update, it looks like I will have th same problem an sending it back and forth could get expensive in shipping charges.

You did not follow my instructions. I requested you Unzip the boot loader file I sent you and copy the unzipped file to the SD card in the root directory. Best you do this step by removing the SD card pop it in an USB SD card reader to ensure you are copying to the SD card. Pop the SD card back into your radio then get ready to flash it by the following. Turn your road on, go to the system menu click on file manager and find the just copied boot loader file, it's called "Bootloader.frsk" and run it to flash it to the radio, turn the radio off. If all this has been done correctly it is then possible to use Ethos Suite to flash your radio with the latest firmware. I have attached software flash procedure.

I do not have a USB card reader, can it be done with the card still in the radio?
Other wise I will have to purchase a USB card reader. When I ordered the radio last year, it was never mentioned I would need a USB card reader as additional equipment.
FrSky should add this information before you purchase a FrSky radio !
And it should have some sort of operations manual included which mine did not have on how to remove the SD card and replace it from the radio. Another failure of FrSky.
I guess they just figure a FrSky radio purchaser already knows about this!
One of the reasons I like Spektrum radios. Like I have said this X20S did not come with any kind of paper work or radio operation manual.
Nor was it ever mentioned in any advertisement of the radio.
Is there any special tool used to remove and replace the SD card?
FrSky needs to update their informatiion about their radios! If I had known this , I would favored a Spektrum radio ovrr the FrSky. I purchased the FrSky X20S because of the 24 channels. I Have a Spektrum 6 channel that I have never had a problem with and if I need advice on it, most of my RC model airplane club members use Spektrum radios.
We have 86 members and about 90% of them use Spektrum radios.
Since 1994 I Have used an Ace MIcropro 8000 radio but it's on 72 Mhz. I will have too convert it to 2.4 GHZ
I also have an Ace MIcropro 8000 on 53Mhz HAM radio frequency since I am a HAM radio operator.
But now I am learning things about the FrSky X20S radio I never knew about before.

Ed, I hope you are not too angry as I sence you are a bit peed off. Instead of complaining you could have asked for the where abouts of an Ethos radio manual. There is a 458 page user manual in 7 different launguages available which is constainly being updated with new software features, you will find it here. https://github.com/FrSkyRC/ETHOS-Feedback-Community?tab=readme-ov-file Scroll down to find the manuals.
The only reason I mentioned a USB card reader is because it's a simpler way for you to get the Bootloader into your radio after which updates are simple. You can purchase a USB card read for about $2 in Australia.

From your tone it maybe best to stay with Spektrum over FRsky. Instead of complaining you could team up with someone that has the experience you current don't have.

I hope you find my comments usefull.
Henny

Thankyou for your comments Henny, but I feel Frsky should include a manual with their radios.
Next time i am out, I will purchasea card reader.

Henny, I spent almost $500.00 for a new radio that I Have not been able to use. I read so many positive reviews on it before buying it I thought I was getting a really good deal and great radio. I haven't been able to install the rXs I got in any airplane because I cant get the radio to update and work. BUt you are the only one who has taken the time to answer my questions and try to help me! For that I am very appreciative of your efforts! Thankyou!
Is there any special brand of card reader you use? I looked at Walmarts website and card readers they sale re about 4 to 5 time more expensive than those on Ebay.
