Can't update my FrSkyX20S

Well it's getting late here almost 1 am and i'm tired, I'll check back in tomorrow for any responses.
If Ethos suite is now operational, please confirm it is version 1.7.0, displayed top left of the Ethos screen.

So to update your X20S radio perform the following. No need to go into Bootloader mode (Bootleg as you call it )
1. Power up your radio. With no USB cable connected.
2. Connect the USB cable between your radio and laptop with Ethos suite running..
3. If the promt comes up on your radio screen select USB connection of your radio.
4. On the Ethos screen upper left it should say Radio X20S. Meaning Ethos has found your radio.
5. Under radio info on Ethos suite click on Ethos ( left side of Ethos screen).
6. On Ethos suite top center it will display what is out or up to date on your X20S.
7.To flash your radio see the lower center of Ethos suite where is says Write outdated components, there is a down facing arrow, if you hover over it , it will will say Flash. Meaning click to update your radio.

Good luck. Henny

ED - Henny has outlined the steps very well.

Basically nothing to download but Ethos Suite 1.7 and then you run that app and it does all the work for you. You have been coming at things like the old OpenTX days.

I'll copy this direct from the Ethos manual (also available from a link in Ethos Suite:

Overview
The Ethos Suite PC application runs on a Windows PC or Mac and connects to FrSky radios that are running the ETHOS operating system. Ethos Suite connects to the radio via a USB cable.
Once connected to the radio the current release of ETHOS SUITE can do the following things:
  1. Determine the radio type, ID, and the versions of the firmware, the bootloader, the internal RF module, files in Flash memory, and the SD card or eMMC files.
  2. Change the mode of the radio from running in bootloader mode to starting and running Ethos on the radio, with the option of switching back again.
  3. With the current radio status information displayed, Ethos Suite provides the user with selections for updating to the most current and correct firmware and files. It then downloads and installs them automatically. The user can select to update the outdated components, to update all components regardless, or to update them individually.
  4. Using the Model Manager a backup of the models on the radio can be saved to disk, or a previously saved backup may be restored to the radio. Models are not backwards compatible, so the older model files have to be restored from the PC when downgrading to older firmware.
  5. The download centre can be used to download any firmware from the FrSky download site, and to use the radio as a proxy to flash any module, sensor, servo, or receiver directly from Ethos Suite.
  6. Convert images to ETHOS format.
  7. Convert audio files to ETHOS format.
  8. Lua development tools allow you to view the Ethos Lua documentation, access the Lua demo scripts, as well as providing a terminal for debugging.
  9. Flash the radio bootloader in DFU mode (power off connection).
  10. There is a Repair Tool for the X18/S, TW Lite, XE, X20 Pro/R/RS radios. If your radio cannot read from NAND or the settings cannot be saved, this tool can be used to reformat the internal storage.
  11. Eject USB connections.

I just tried what Henny said. Am I supposed to see Radio X20S on the radio screen or my PC ethos sceen because I don' see it on either screen and I dont see radio infoon ethos screeen so it isnt working as Henny described

From page 427 of the user manual:

I have gone to ethos.frsky-rc.com and I see th EThos suite but I don't see the things Henny described, and I don't see an Ethos Suite versio number anywhere.

on the ethos suite page, I do not see radio information or how do I find it? All I see is the ethos suite page, I don't see what you posted with th radio infomation on the left side of the scren. How do I access it?

Maybe you can describe better what you do see so we might have some sort of insight that can help you. Saying you don't see things does not help us to help you.

When you run the Ethos Suite Program - (you are running it, right? The version number will be in the top left corner of the window. It will also alert you if it is an old version.

Ed - You NEED to download the application to your computer, then run that application on your computer.

I opened it up as it is finished downloading and it says Ethos Suite-Windows-1.63.exe
Make sure you trust Ethos- Suite-Windows-1.63 (1).exe before you open it.

What's this all about???? Or is it one more hoop i Have to jump through?

I clicked on Windows and it is downloading Ethos Suite-Windows-1.63 (1) .exe
Okay. You now need to go into your download folder and open the .exe that you just downloaded, then follow the prompts on your computer screen. If it gives you the "Windows protected your PC" error like it did with me, click on "More Info" and then "Run Anyways", that is just your firewall being overprotective due to Ethos Suite being third party software. Follow the prompts on your computer screen to install Ethos Suite.

It is not even in my download files apparently windows prevented it! THis is getting to be a real hassle to update this radio!

Ed - This is normal for Windows. Unless the app is from a very large company with deep pockets, then Windows will give that error. Just accept it, and run it. Upon loading it, it will inform you of the update and offer to update, accept that.
