Camp n Fly 2025!!! May 3-4th!!

Anyone have any issues if the shirts changed to something like an Army Green instead of the burgandy? Seems we can only get RED instead of the darker Burgundy color. A quick vote of folks sounded like the army green would be a better option than RED.

Sorry for the last minute change.

Couple weeks more 😀

We sold our camping trailer recently and went all in on a ground camping setup which Sunset will be the maiden voyage for so that should be fun. Super excited to see everybody and get some good flying in hopefully! 🤞

I liked that little trailer you had. What tent setup you go with? My buddy's invited me to go to Rubicon this next year and I've been looking at the Haven lay flat hammocks that you can also set up on the ground as a tent.

Usually when I'm going for a wheel and I use a little like two or three person dome tent but I'm getting tired of waking up in a puddle when it's wet / snowy out.

Yea, it was hard to let the trailer go as I had put a lot of work into it and we really enjoyed it but with 3 of us now, it just wasnt practical anymore. We splurged a little and got a Gazelle T4 Plus tent and an Exped MegaMat Duo Sleeping pad plus some other misc stuff. It will be a car camping setup and not meant for walking more than a short distance as the tent is large and heavy but should be comfy and roomy. GT451GR-Front-1-050724.webp

I have always used rather small tents in the past as they do much better in the weather (winds), but wanted something larger for Sunset after selling my beast of a trailer. I didn't worry about the amount of space the new tent takes up. I wanted something I could stand in, have room for cots and dogs and a thick enough floor with high walls to keep flood water out. Heck, don't even recall the brand of my tent, but I do like. Did great in the rain last year. Make sure the tent has a lot of ventilation or you will find you collect a lot of condensation on the roof and walls. Ventilation needs to function even when buttoned up for the rains.

That was our thinking as well, wanted something large enough for 3 of us to fit comfortably for a while and big enough to stand up it. The photo shows it with the rain fly on but the sides rolled up. Under the rain fly, the roof is entirely mesh so should be good ventilation. The front area is all mesh with zip down covers and a dividing wall in the middle to make two rooms. Its also nice because its a pop up tent without tent poles, everything is self contained. The down side to this is it is large when broken down and heavy but we decided that we could deal with that. It also has a bathtub style floor so the reviews said it does great in rain/water. Here is a shot without the rain fly on. Has lots of windows and the interior dividing wall.

I went with one of the ozark trails or similar walmart brand of tents that pops up in 2 minutes. Its about twice the floor plan of the last couple years "workshop". And it has already been snow tested :)
It is a big pain though to dry it out. You cant really put these on their sides without tying it out with rope, it wants to collapse on itself.

Was only about a 40 minute drive in 2nd gear to get to that spot from lower lake. Was snowing pretty hard 2 weeks ago. Was the prettiest drive i have done yet in my jeep. We were making fresh tracks in the snow, first people up the mountain. Deer Valley campground. We usually go to pillsbury and than see how far we get before we get stuck, but we were afraid of all the snow that could fall behind us and we could get stuck in the mountains for longer than we planned to stay.

What time is everyone planning on getting to sunset this year? I think @Hawaii Sloper and i should be there around 2pm'ish wed like last year.

On this last camping trip i (well my wife and i) pre made some beef and potato stew. Froze it and we reheated it one night for dinner. Thinking about doing that this year for the potluck.

Looks awesome! I still have my old toyota pickup but havent wheeled it for years now. Cant quite bring myself to sell it though as it has been so much fun. Did a snow trip once in it and it did great. 438134438_401465919576334_2925359236999861880_n.webp

I think ill be picking up @Hawaii Sloper at SFO like 8-9 depending on when i get past the city traffic (IE how early do i want to get up that morning) and than we hit the costco in santa cruz on the way. So i would say 12-2pm for us. Hopefully we dont get a grouchy ranger lady again. Like nobody was camped anywhere in that loop, we had reservations, but apparently showing up early to hang out is not ok. They did finally let us in, but cant remember if they made us pay for a day pass too.
