After seeing Roy and Johns solar setups at last years event i grabbed the parts to do my own over the past few months, even test it on a 3 day camping trip.
We powered a nintendo switch and tv and a laptop for hours, made some coffee on electric peculator, powered some lights at night. Left for home with the batteries more charged than when we started.
Since that trip i have added some simple amp meters at different points.

100w solar panel
10a solar controller
Harbor freight 1500w inverter
Car accessory port

Very cool, but it seems like a lot of work for camping for 3 days. LOL. Now for survival training (or power outage training) you get a A+!!

well yes that is the other part of it. Having lost power for twice for a week at a time and getting evacuated to santa rosa for a week, this is part of our escape plan/power outage.

So i think i finally talked up the event enough to convince Stu (lostwingink shirt designer) to come to the event. While he is mainly a fpv wing flyer he has sloped and was into flitetest rc planes (i met him at flitefest 2017 napa) so he is excited to come check it out. He will be staying in my camp site (37) if you want to say hi or talk about the shirt stuff.
Very cool! It will be great to meet him. I have ordered him a shirt and hoodie in the order already. :)

I will be traveling down wed morning and leaving sunday. Should be onsite by 1pm. Ill quickly setup tents cooking stuff, whatever i can. At 4:30pm i have to leave to go to the San Jose airport to pickup Kelly. His flight from hawaii gets in at 5:15pm. Hes my best friend i have known for years. He is actually the one that got me into RC. He had done it before and one day in 2014 a Hobbyking Transmitter and battery charger showed up at my house that he surprised me with and i have been hooked ever since. I think he has done thermal but he hasn't done sloped before. I gifted him my Weasel and @Nigel ( i think) was selling a EPP hawk from anton that i purchased and aloft will be bringing that. Plus whatever i bring. So havent really done a big project this year, just refreshing the stuff i have and making sure its on 2 radios so we can share my fleet.

Yeah not sure when Stu is showing up but if he does i imagine we will try and walk off the park property and get a nice fpv flight on the beach just north of the entrance to the park. Ill talk to the rangers first, i dont want to irritate them. Ill be totally open with them about what we are doing and wanting to fly outside the park, If they are not cool with it we can find somewhere else to do it. Im not a pusher, I wont piss them off.

That is awesome.

We will also be coming down on the 27th. Hope to get things setup and get some flying in before I get side tracked with everyone around. Once everyone is there I tend to fly a lot less as I enjoy chatting with everyone and getting caught up on things. Don't think we will have a trailer this time, so probably no breakfast burritos. But maybe..

Just up the coast near Calfee Design in this image is a dirt strip airport. There is a nice big shade tree there and another slope you can fly.

It is just one field up the beach from Sunset. I think Gabe can get us access to this site if needed and can be used for extra parking. I just need to confirm with him if we feel the need to use this space. It is a gated community so cars should be good and safe there. It is a pretty cool site all on it's own. It is owned by a church that does not like people to do work on Saturdays.

Wow, very cool story. I think he is going to enjoy sloping a lot. Especially if he gets to fly a 3m ship (no offense to the small crafts) but since he is used to the nice graceful flying of thermal, I am sure he would enjoy a 3m flight. I will bring a 3m ship for him to try out if he likes. :)
