CAM units

Very Strong User
I'm looking for an adjustable altitude limiting motor cut off device.
I see that Soaring Circuits list Aloft as a dealer. But this looks to be a dated site 2019. Also all sites list these products as out of stock. Is Soaring Circuits still making these units? If not is there another unit that is simple to program (in the field). I'm looking for a limiter for the new proposed F5-RES class

Yes, they are still open, but they are a little slow to produce the products right now. Randy thought he would be able to send us some stuff in January, but that has slipped past. I like his products a lot and will wait as needed to get it.

We also sell the Aero-b-tec which are easier to keep in stock, but not made in the USA.

Thanks. If you can find the time, please ask him when the next production run will be made. I'm not flying my Chrysalis Lite F5-RESt in competition as I have too many irons in the fire, so I can wait.

The Aero-b-tec is a fine unit. But is appears to be a windows based interface. Not a web based one. So maintaining and updating it is problematic for me.

Well, I'm not sure what all is going on at Soaring Circuits, but do know Randy is a man of his word, and he will get them out when he can. He has always been a pleasure to work with. Not sure if the issue is health related or something along those lines, but that does ring a bell. I suspect we will see the shipment in a month or two.

Can you not just use a frsky.com altimeter module that you could use with a script to cut the motor if you go above whatever you set it to or if you don't want it to cut the motor automatically you can set your transmitter to sound an alarm once you are at a certain height?

I'm not aware of an altimeter module. CAM F5J is an F5J system that is approved my the FAI. I doubt the FrSky's vario has the resolution, accuracy and speed needed.

They need the FAI approval for the contests. The closed loop system is key to that. If using a vario in a FrSky radio, the user could easily adjust the programming to cheat the contest.

I have both the CamF5J and the Cam ALES, both work perfectly, the CamF5J has only issues with the pilot's ability, the Cam does what it has to do, and all the comps I've flown in with the ALES version have been set at 150 metres, but we are starting a new series two comps a year flown as close as possible to the Solstice's with a 100 metre launch E/RES style aircraft (5minute flight time, with inside 5 and 10 metre landings).

Both good systems.
