Buying an original acct taranis to run v and d series rx’s. Been too awkward with hitec/dft. What are my concerns?

I bought a brand new non-plus version when FrSky first came on the market. Like most people, "life happened" and I drifted away from the hobby for a couple of years to find that the plus transmitters had been brought out to replace the original non-plus radios.
It seemed that there were some upgrades that were NEEDED to make the Taranis a viable product but there was no path whatsoever to update a non-plus to a plus.
So while it's possible to use the non-plus on old receivers if you have them, I consider the non-plus to be pretty much a brick radio being as it was a total dead end.
You really need to find a plus version if you want to fly the Taranis.
It may have one saving grace but I'm not even sure of that because I've never tried it. And that is that it "might" be used as a trainer slave radio with newer radios. Again, I really don't know that might be the case, but if it is, at least it could serve that one purpose.

I invite anyone to correct me if I'm wrong about my above comment.

My little used non-plus is now just an ornament. I have pulled the battery and have it sitting visible on a shelf in my rec room just for decoration which is about all it is now.

I'm not sure how you have come to this conclusion, the Plus version add a two colour backlight and an optional, extra analog input that is not used by default.
Both the original Taranis and the Plus version use the same XJT module so work the same as far as receivers are concerned. It is only the 2019 version that changed to use ACCESS.

Well I amp glad to know that I can use the v and D series receivers I have. Fellow wants $60 shipped for the one pictured. I,m a world class cheapskate but that seems in the ball park w/ batt and charger.

Good to know that the old receivers should work since that is all I have. The tx pictured is for sale with batt and charger, case, shipped for $60. Is that reasonable? (My previous post just showed up- my computer skills are sub basic.)

Seems like a good price to me, and the radio looks pretty clean with a couple of upgrades. The battery may be tired if it has not been used for a while, but lots of battery options out there, so no worries.

Most common issue is the navigation buttons on the bottom can get out of alignment, a pretty easy fix.

The challenge for you will be learning to use OpenTX compared to your menu driven Hitec radio. You will either love it, hate it at first and learn to love it, or just always hate it and curse the day you bought it. I'd say about 15% of people fall in that last category for OpenTX. The rest learning to love it as they got to understand how it works. It is VERY powerful, but it can be confusing if you are not a logical sort of person.

My first FrSky radio was a Taranis non-plus. I was so impressed with it I bought a Taranis Plus about 6 months later.
The Plus version added a built-in haptic vibrator, slightly better feeling levers and knobs, and a better speaker, but overall worked exactly the same. I had already added the haptic vibrator to the non-plus, so they were pretty much identical in performance. The only significant difference was that the non-plus and the plus used two different versions of OpenTx.
So years later I got another Plus and sold the non-plus just so they would be identical in every way. I used one for my glow/gas planes and the other for my electric planes.

Like Wayne mentioned, learning to use OpenTx will be a steep learning curve, but the end result is well worth it. The Taranis is far more capable than your Hitec transmitter, and IMHO the FrSky ACCST protocol is one of the best out there......period.
