Brand New Archer RS no lights, and data refused when trying to update firmware over SPort

I've got a brand new Archer RS, pulled from the packed soldered on the header and added power and sbus wires. I tried it with the Archer GR8 I'm pairing it with and noticed no lights, and no registering or OTA firmware update. So I wired it up for SPort programming. With this setup it resets, and programs anywhere from 3% to 20% so far before the transmitter beeps and says "Data refused" I've tried this with both OpenTX and Ethos with the same result.

Did I just get a bad receiver?

Firstly you need to flash the receiver using the S-Port. Sbus is a channel output terminal only and cannot be used to flash a receiver. There is no soldering required as you also get two leads with the receiver , one with bare wires and the second with a servo plug which is already wired for S-Port. What version of firmware are you trying to flash to the receiver and which transmitter are you using to perform the flashing process. The current GR8 version is v2.1.8 Data refused means you have not connected the receiver correctly.

Umm, yep. SPort as stated, and the RS has the problem and does need soldering. Its Archer RS 2.1.8 as well.

Sorry, think Henny missed something.. He is usually on the spot.

OK - So you will hate this answer, but give it a couple of more tries. Sometimes it just doesn't work at first. The other thing, make sure the file your are using is clean and full. If bruning to an SD card always make sure you eject it via the software on the computer before unplugging. This causes a lot of these sorts of issues. If none of this works, and you bought it from us, just let us know and we will get you a return label and will get you a fully tested and updated receiver to replace it.
