Balsa Builders

Aloft sells plenty of stock for balsa creations. We need a balsa builders section, for those of us building from scratch, plans or short kits.

I go out of my way for their stock, they scout around for the best, not just stuck on only one supplier, they have to meet their quality standards.

I am showing some of my creations build from their stock I ordered.

I used to build balsa planes a long time ago and will be building the Ridge Runt Evo. What sort of surface do you like to build your planes on? I think I used to build mine on a cork board, but it's been so long I can hardly remember.

I've rather transitioned over to a series of sections of different lengths of simple plywood stock, some reinforced too on the larger pieces resting on my lap. I've also been using simple foam board for the backing/workspot, contact cemented on with spray on contact cement, nothing fancy for the pinning down and building the models. I have sections of finished ply just for cutting or balsa stripping on, so no backing upon. I do smaller models so you can get away with that, the bigger and heavier ones, at best, you can bust out tail feather sections or the rest going the lap build route.

I can get you photo's of my crude set up I suppose, and am game on pointing you the right direction to set up your own lap-top type of build table/sections. Even though your bird is covered already, feel free to chime in and share your progress, always cool to see a new build in progress and am happy to help out if needed on advice and moral support. David the Ridge Runt really just needs a flat build surface. A little max paper for the wing build is nice to have. No need to pin anything with our Quick Build methods.

I am looking for some info on the Autodesk Fusion 360 3D design & fab ware. Does anyone have experience
with this product?

Tom

A couple of the guys here have used it in the past. Might be best to start a new thread with your questions.
