ASS-70 Airspeed Sensor

Roger Fowler

New User
I have a FrSky ASS-70 that I purchased several years ago and was never successful in getting it to work. The readings bounced all over the place. Does anyone have any experience with this sensor? I am probably using it in the 10 to 30 mph range. I moved it well forward of the model so it was sure to be in clean air and also put an RF shield around the PCB. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Well, you got the right idea, needs to be in clean air. Also very important to get it pointing straight into the airstream. Try playing a bit with rudder trim and see if that results in a cleaner set of numbers. Some planes like to crab (fly at a slight angle) into the air. (Was recently reading about a full scale plane that had just this issue, the plane needed constant correct to the rudder to attempt to keep the ball centered. Basically the rudder had no effect with small changes as it was in dead air, only larger inputs would give a result, but sadly it would be too much and send the plane in the other direction.)
