Archer Plus SR gyro drift

Hippo

New User
I have an SR6 Mini-E, and and SR8. Both are working correctly in gyro, but in self level mode the gyro is usually off angle. I'll randomly need up or down trim. One time the plane wanted to bank right 40 degrees. Sometimes switching self-level off and back on again in the same flight will result in trim changes. Do the gyros drift as they warm up? This is happening on two different planes.

Hello Hippo
I use a SR6mini and a SR8 Archer plus without problem.
But I made similar experience. In my case this was the result of a wrong setup. The self level mode is much more effected by false setup than the gyro mode.
Could be wrong positioning, calibration, setup or selftest/stickcalibration.
And do check the firmware versions.
What radio do you use?
What's the firmware version of the HF module?
What's the firmware version of the receivers?
What's the version of the Lua scripts you use?
Regards Alois

PS: without the mentioned firmware information it is nearly impossible to give any hints

Hello Hippo
I've read in your other post that you use a Taranis 2019 with OpenTx.
Are you aware that if you have newly bought receivers they will have a firmware version V3.0....
These firmware is not compatible with the scripts that are available by Frsky. There will be no error message during setup but some of the values are not stored.
So you have to downgrade the firmware of your receivers to V1.0.10. (if you want to use official Frsky LUA scripts)

If you really want to keep the V3.0.. firmware please read this post:

I have the 2019 Taranis, as well as a TX16S. I updated my receiver firmware to 3.0.1 after testing 1.0.10 to see if things improved. There are updated lua scripts for 3.0.1, and i set up from scratch.

What misconfiguration did you encounter? The only thing I may have messed up could be the initialization where you lay the receiver on all 6 sides.

I can think of nothing that would cause the self level angle to vary wildly when powering up. Even stranger is turning on self level in flight to find the plane climbing or diving causing me to switch it off. Trying again later in the same flight it may work properly, or be off level at a different angle.

It's hard to trust the self level. The old S8R receivers were rock solid.

Thanks,
Dan

My problem was that I didn't place the receiver as recommended (Pin direction) and was trying to adjust this with the settings.
This did work for the stabi mode but not for the auto level mode.

The Lua script you mention are the one of "offer smuely" on Github I guess.
These are only for EdgeTX Colored Displays. They do not work on Taranis or on other radios with black and white displays.
If done a modified versions of these scripts wich runs on OpenTx/EdgeTX LCD and on color Displays.
If you want to give it a try just write me.

I've sent you the scripts for LCD screen radios.
Please let me know whether they worked as expected.
