APEX - The Wingeron Project

I started this project a little over 2 years ago. Over this time it has morphed a bit and become what we see here today. What you see below is prototype number 1.

She is super lightweight, 1.8 meter span with a full flying elevator and a nice big rudder. This is exactly what I think makes a really nice sporty model for lighter lift sites. The perfect plane for a slope like Sunset.

She will come much as you see her, all wood work done, fiberglass fuselage, etc.

We are currently developing the wing linkages and servo tray, but of course we have some other projects in house and are going to be moving the business soon, so no telling how long it may take. :( I've waited 2 years, what is a little more time?

No, she is not a pitcheron, I much prefer a wingeron. (wingeron = roll)
No, she will not have a mad stab.
No, I do not have a name for her.
Yes, she can easily be setup for electric.

We are designing the trays to use the FrSky MD5301H for the wing, and ACT M5213H for the tails. These are super nice servos, blistering fast and way more torque then needed. I picked the ACT M5213H over the smaller and lighter 8mm FrSky servos based on price (they are a great price!)

We will offer a few different wings for her, one will be rib built polyhedral.

Is it the big one with the white fuselage or the little one with the polyhedral wing in the upper right corner ?

They both Look great :)

Hell Razor...

Well it beats the kaka out of "Screamer!"

Doc.

A very cool looking slope plane. An excellent project.
I loved the Sig Samurai pitcheron so much that I had three of them over time
Love the shape of this fuselage and canopy.

Thanks all - This is a plane I have been wanting for a long time. I'm super happy with it thus far.

We put our heads together for a new layout for the wing servo. We need to design it up and make some samples and see how it works out in real life. I have high hopes. :)

Very nice. Like that its designed for light lift, and that it can be modified for electric!. And it looks really clean.

Sadly this project was on the back burner while we moved to our new location, etc. Well, I unleashed the team on it this week and she is just about ready to fly. Rafael and Jarron have done an excellent job designing and building this model. I look forward to the updates from the team. I'll snap some pictures very soon with some updated details and AUW.

Back from the maiden flight. Very light conditions, but occasionally would build to so-so. Plane flies GREAT. She may not have a name yet, but she gave me a real feeling of Freedom in the air.

Usually maiden flights of a brand new design give you some teething issues, but this really went well. CG seemed to be on the mark, but we will play around a bit to confirm. She responds to all flight surfaces really well, and feels very comfortable. All three of us there flew her and all enjoyed our stick time. She likes some stall turns in the light lift rather than scratching for lift. Rudder feels really good, and should add to acro. Really quickly and all three of us where flying on the lip, always a good sign of a comfortable plane. We pulled a couple of rolls and she gets around nice for a 1.8 meter span. Jarron managed a nice loop around the sun.. I looked away, so I'll take his word for it. LOL She will be a sweetheart at a slope like Sunset or Long Beach.

Looking forward to the next flights.

Rafael should have some video to share. (I need to get a phone with a better zoom.. Most of my pictures look like the plane is a 1000 miles away.)
