Any reason to worry about getting a Horus with ISRM/ACCESS if I'm not planning on ETHOS with it?

Kicking around grabbing one cheap to tinker with and run EdgeTX on. All the real cheap secondhand ones are non ISRM radios. Is there any reason to worry about ACCESS when UNI exists for the older receivers and the Archer+ receivers support ACCST? I have an X18RS as my daily driver for fixed wing so 0 need to put ETHOS on a Horus.

Compared to the X18, I think you will find it heavy and less comfortable. The known and rather common issues are gimbals get tired due to wire stress, and the rotary knob tends to break. Other than those rather fixable issues they are pretty darn solid.

That's what I hear. I just want something to mess with EdgeTX that isn't a RM and has expandability and easy compatibility. The 10 Express is still available on Horus USA new and I see 10s and 12s for sale on ebay for like $150. Kinda leaning towards a used 12S because of the easy touchscreen mod. The 10S touch mod soldering... not sure I'm there.

They are rather power hungry, they are heavy, they don't have the best ergo, and they are a royal pain to work on. I have a lot of bad memories of them and the product launch, so maybe I am biased. I have several of the BETA units kicking around - Can't be used for flying due to static charges can shut them down without warning. Good times.

Eh I used to fly with brick radios in the 90s. I love my 18RS but it feels "cheap" because its so light even though I know its not. I put a dirt cheap offer in on a X12S on ebay to mess with. Its an old beat up one so maybe it'll be accepted. Not about to pay what Horus wants for one new still... I don't know why they aren't clearancing them out tbth. Maybe nobody would buy them anyway lol.

Wish they'd have done a X12S Express, I had heard they were considering it but decided the X10 was the way to go. The X10S Express digital hall gimbals aren't compatible with the X12S are they?

By the time the X10 Express came along, FrSky had a large inventory of the X12S that were not selling. Those are the same radios they are still trying to unload. We stopped offering them when the X18 came along as it was SOOOO much better! To this day I am not aware of a weakness in the X18 family. The early X20 tend to break handles, and that is about it on that one. Since the release of the X20 and X18, FrSky radios have been pretty darn rock solid!

Some people really like the X9D and how long they last, and when they do have an issue it is usually easy to fix. But the Tandem and Twin radios are near perfect, and then you add in the Ethos system, really don't know why someone would look at something else.

We have been selling Frsky radios since before they offered a transmitter. We have seen it all. We have seen the industry pivot due to the improvements that FrSky brought to market. It has been a long time, but regardless of the brand you buy now, all radios had to get better to compete. (Though I have seen one major brand go backwards recently, Spektrum. Not sure what they are thinking.)

Yeah I do love the Tandem radios. Like I said I just wanted something to mess with and I always kinda liked the way the X12S looked and that it can run OS and Ethos too.
