Anja - Our special greeter at Aloft

If you have ever been to Aloft Hobbies you were probably greeted by Anja our yellow lab. While she had slowed down in the last year or so, she took her duties seriously and always tried to share a little joy and probably a good amount of loose fur.

What you may not know this was Anja's second career, her original job was a highly trained guide dog. Let me tell you, she was an amazing guide dog guiding my wife all over the place. That dog has flown more airlines than most people as she escorted my wife all over the place for her work.

After many years she retired from the guide dog career and I got to spoil her. She came to work with me every day and she started training the staff and customers. Yes, she was an excellent human trainer. More than a few of us had a schedule of giving her treats.

I'm sad to report that after 16-1/4 years Anja had really slowed down. "Guide Dogs for the Blind" had done an excellent job with breeding a healthy and smart dog and kept her happy and healthy with the amazing lifetime health care for their working dogs. Today was her last as she returned to the campus where she was born for her final caring moments.

I will truly miss our big furry friend.

I took this picture this morning as I feared it would be her last time at the office.

I'm sorry for your loss. I'm glad to have met her though and given her a few head rubs. Fur babies are family.

That is great story if not a little bit of a heartbreaker… Where would we be without our cats and dogs?

We are so sad to hear that, Wayne.

Julia and I loved Anja as we did Belle. It was hard to believe that such a highly trained dog could actually become such a playful puppy as soon as the guide harness came off. She was so smart and so playful, and I dont think she ever had a bad thought in her loving doggy brain.

Our thoughts and memories are with you and Jane.

Aw, I’m bummed to hear she’s left the shop. Was always a big treat to be greeted by this big ball of fur when coming through the front door. Sounds like she is in very good hands, and hopefully among some other familiar faces too
