Alpenbrise electric power

Reaching out to Doc Hammond and others for recommendations for an electric power system for my new Alpenbrise (recently received from Aloft).
Have flown two and three meter sailplanes with electric systems installed, but no experience in setting up such a system on my own. No slopes within easy driving range for me and want a reliable motor, prop, esc and battery combo optimal for this gorgeous work of art! Additionally, want equipment that is currently available as I am anxious to fly this one.

go to Composite RC Gliders and tap Alpenbrise. At the bottom of the page, the complete power train set up is listed inc prop. This is for the model seen in the videos seen on this forum.

I have asked the Guys at CRG for thier latest setup as I think they have changed it. I have also asked one of the European fliers - a certified nutcase with an Alpenbrise - what he and the others are favouring.

Hi Raymond - here is what Humbricht Bliebler (Switzerland) uses: Note: he highly recommends a direct drive motor:

From Humbricht: "Hallo James Thank you very much for your message! I have installed in my Alpenbrise a direct drive system less noise than a gear system and much cheaper. Also I use a separate Liio Akku for the receiver whenever I have space I don’t trust the BEC or I install a backup system. I include the parts installed in pictures so you can see the details."

There’s a bit of right thrust evident in Humbricht’s photo. Wonder if that was built in, or added after flight testing?

I think it may have been added Jonty - if it was built in you probably wouldn't be able to see it from that angle.

So far, if it is right thrust its the only one I have seen. All the rest are straight as far as I know.

One more bit of info from Sebastian Franken - CRG test pilot and partner:

Our recommended setup works fine. Easy hand launch a good climb rate of 12m/s and a motor runtime of around 2,5 mins.

I think a direct drive variant is also possible. Maybe an A40 with 17x10 on 4S (ASW28) or a A40 with 13x8 on 6S (new AS33). Both Models have similar weight and wingspan like the Alpenbrise but lower basic speed. I would try one of these configs.

I was enquiring if an on line assembly manual existed for the Alpenbrise. I can figure things out I am sure but have delayed unpacking the Alpenbrise until I have all the parts I ordered together. I am using the parts recommended on the German website with direct drive geared inrunner motor and the IDS linkages (I have never installed these before and understand some videos that illustrate their installation).

Looks like Iain Rose is managing to brave the fierce British spring weather with his orange Alpenbrise. This one is the third one out of the mould and has been flown very hard by Iain ever since he got it, depite it being an "S" version. Iain is well known for his 'stressful' flying style.
