I bought the kit about 15 years ago. I never built a model with foam core, wood covered wings with servos in the wings. This method appears to be out dated.
What is the best way to hold the servos on the foam? I'm thinking a plywood backer plate glued on the foam.

This sailplane has four servos. The KST 8 V5 fits the best in the aileron spot. It has 2.2kg-cm of torque. I wonder if this enough? I'll use more powerful flap servos and mix them together in flight.

The fuselage is so huge that two full sized servos are lost in it. Instead of adding lead to balance it, I'll use a 5000mah 2s battery from a RC car!

I'm not familiar with that plane, but it has nice lines. Can you fit a bigger servo into the wings? The X08 servos mixed with a 5000 battery seems odd. LOL

I have attached some images of a nice clean way to mount servos into a foam wing without too much effort.

Like Wayne, I not familiar with this ship.
Is this her?

If so the X08 are not suitable for this model, mainly because of the price and gear train. I like to see guys put in the LARGEST servo that will fit into the wing. This is because the bigger the servo the larger the gears (usually). Slope ships give ailerons and flaps servo gears a beating on landing. Usually we have to crab when landing which often causes a wing tip to hit the ground first instead of the fuselage this does put a huge strain on gears sets.

This write up list the wing servos as being HS 85 on this 2Kg (1.9kg) ship.

On this model I'd look at some of the PowerHD servo. This 1711 servo is close to a direct replacement of the HS 85 being a little under 12mm (11.7mm) thick.

For the price of one XO8 you can equip the whole ship with servos.

To keep her all digital and HV 7.2 (2 cell Lipo) these are good 12mm thick servos and you can get replacement gear sets (Unlike the XO8).

If needed these servo covers work well

If you really need to use an 10mm wide servo look at the MKS 6110HV as you can get replacement gears for these.

For nose weight I like these servos, and they are HV.

Note the X08 and X08 plus really are aimed at the DLG and light thermal type ship. Yes, I love them and use them in my 2 kg thermal ships.
