Anyone have experience to offer regarding Aeroic’s Sessanta 60 - building, setup & flying etc?

Recently purchased this glider along with a Forza 100…

Thanks

Hey Jeff - I can tell you anything yo need to know.

Cheers,

Doc.

Hello Doc,

Thank you for replying and offering insight. I’ve read the Forza build thread on this forum with interest and was hoping there might have been a similar one on the Senssanta. Not sure which model I’ll start first. Still researching servos, batteries and linkage systems etc. Recently retired after 40 years in the cockpit and returning to the hobby which got me started in aviation back when I was a kid teenager. My learning curve is steep at the moment. I do have a few models under my belt, but yours, will be a big step up! Once I think I have a plan, I’ll post it and see what you and others think…

Hi Jeff, you’ve made a good choice in going for a Forza, it really is a great sloper, and has superb characteristics whether flown fast or very slowly when landing using the very effective flaps. I think it’s the best model that Doc J has come up with to date for everyday sport slope flying.

The Sessanta? I have no experience with that so can’t comment either way.

You said that you’re getting back into flying after a long hiatus. I hope you won’t mind me asking a few questions of you? Are you actively sloping now, and what are you flying? Do you fly with other guys with experience of putting together then installing the servos etc properly in moulded gliders, setting up the flight modes etc essential to fly these things?
You‘ll understand that the more info from yourself, the more help you’ll receive from this forum.

Welcome back!

Cheers
Jonty

Hi Jonty,

Thank you for your reply. I followed the Forza thread with great interest as well as Doc‘s designs in general. The Forza and Senssanta attracted me particularly for their looks and what I was able to gather as to their flying qualities.

As far as my back ground and experience, I would call myself an intermediate sport modeler. I got into aviation via modeling as a teenager. Once my career took off and life captured me, I got away from it. My professional back ground includes military and airline - CH47 Chinook and the last 28 years flying the B747 as Capt.

I’m an American, living in Germany - my German wife won’t let me return home. I fly alone and am not a member of any club. I live in the Mosel wine region. Many nice (vineyard) slopes, but difficult landing areas - particularly for my modest skills.

In addition to the SS Forza and SS Senssanta (purchased strong versions due my landing conditions), I’ve built and semi mastered the attached models.

I’m still researching components and building plans for both the Aeroic models. I’ll use KST servos and fly a Jeti DS12 (fully unlocked) radio system. Other than wing ballast in the Forza, I don’t think I’ll install ballast tubes - I’m an old guy and will only fly in relax conditions. I’m also leaning towards installing the rudder servo upfront with only the elevator aft on both models. No clue on type of push rod for the elevator. Not sure what type/size battery I’ll go with.

Now retired, I have all the time in the world - no rush - the process is as enjoyable as the result!

Open to any and all suggestions

Kindly,

Jeff

Hey Jeff, welcome back to the hobby! - to begin with - some more can be found on my website: www.aeroiccomposites.com

But - as you get questions, please fire away.

As an Allrounder the Forza a nice easy to fly plane and with a pretty good performance - but very forgiving - which can be helpful!

Cheers,

Doc.

Thanks Doc! You referred to the Forza as being a good Allrounder and that was what I was hoping it’d be. The Senssanta (SS version) looks like it’s a hot little glider. I think I’ll build and get some experience in the Forza first…

Thats a smart decision, Jeff - those smaller models can be fast and twitchy and the Sessanta is particularly that way - its not hard to fly and slows down pretty well, but when its head is down it covers distances and can get very small very FAST.

Cheers,

Doc.

Doc,

Think I’ll go with KST X10 (flap) & X10 mini for the wings. KST DS215MG for the rudder (up front) and elevator (rear). Will also use Tomas Lui’s high performance Pushrods sold here in the Aloft store for wing control surfaces linkage. Any photos of the elevator linkage/setup you could share? Also, what type of pushrod would you suggest I use for the rudder to minimize any play - given it’ll be mounted up front. Carbon rod or something like the MP Jet Gray Line tubes? Finally, what type and size battery would you suggest? Servos are HV, but I’m wondering about weight and podsibly using a larger battery to avoid extra ballast in the nose…

Jeff

You might want to consider some of the KST X08 or similar 8mm servos. Save some weight and plenty of strength. The X10 Mini could be used in the flap.. I think. Need to confirm it will fit well.

Best listen to Wayne on servos Hunje - Wayne is good...Wayne is wise...Thats why I always ask him what servos to use when I'm at the design table :cool:

As to Tomas Liu stuff - sound decision - I have known Tomas personally for over 30 years, and I know what efforts and experimentation he puts into his products. Simply put: TL is the very best that you can buy. Red is the expert there.

Cheers,

Doc

Doc,

What wing lock system would you suggest for the Forza? They seem to fit fairly snug, even with a floating joiner, clearly tape is not enough…

None, Jeff. The model was designed for, and as far as I know, everyone uses tape. The best kind is the electrical tape that leaves no residue.

This acts as a mechanical fuse so that in the event of a hard arrival, or hard spin it cracks, saving the wing.

Cheers,

Doc.

Hunje, at this past Sunset flying event I was able to purchase a prototype version of the Sessanta from @Wayne. I didn’t get the chance to fly it due to limited time and didn’t build it so can’t offer any insight in that regard. But if any pictures would help, @thenated0g has it at his house in California and can post some.

Gents, finishing up some final tasks on my Forza - I’ve gone slow and am fairly satisfied with its outcome, but have not yet maiden.

I’ll provide some photos & details for comment and suggestions, soon.

Until then, my all up TOW is 2270g with a cg of 100.0 exactly. Does this fall within acceptable parameters?

Jeff
