As I've said in other threads, this was where I grew up flying. I thought that this is how LZ's were. Now I'm looking at places like Tick Point and I'm seriously wondering how anyone lands there. So basically if you don't have a glider that can hover land, those places are kinda off limits. No way could I fly my Jester there, for example.great looking plane. love that landing zone they have, totally cheating.

I was spoiled and I had no idea...
Well, I'll be camping there in a couple months!Hey David - try Sunset...
Doc.
David, start practicing as the landing zone is a smallish corral, BTWWell, I'll be camping there in a couple months!
What a nice looking sloper. What kind of plane is that?Pardon me for going off topic, but here’s where I hover landed 4 times a while back in 20+ mph. 2 with my mate’s Whisper, and 2 with my Forza. The actual landing spot was to the right of the Whisper seen on the ground, exactly in line with the model on the darker, longer grass above the footpath. My mate acted as spotter, as we’re supposed to avoid walkers.
Couldn’t do stuff like this without flaps!

I will. I'm planning on buying a glider from Wayne that will be for that purpose. Hopefully will be picking it up this week.David, start practicing as the landing zone is a smallish corral, BTW
We still gotta find a spot to fly our scales. They're gonna look nice together in the sky. I know it's extra far from you but I think that Banos might be the way. Perhaps we can get a little group together when the wind looks promising. My buddy is driving my Ash-26 up from SD for the Camp 'n Fly so anytime after that will work for me.Of course tick was my first place i flew so everything else has been easy lol
I haven't been down there yet but it looks like maybe one could land on the north side of the fence perhaps? Not sure how rough those bushes are but that LZ inside of that fence is pretty darn tight and there's so many people in there. The Forza and the Alpinebrise will both hover land like pros as long as the site will accept this landing method.
The landing at Tick is actually very easy once you get the swing of it. Yes, it is a tiny space, but it is actually easy with a flapped model. And yes Jesters have flown there. Would not be a suggested site for a Jester though.
I agree with the others, landing inside the fence at Sunset is probably one of the harder sites to master. It should be easy with a rather large area and little or no rotor, but that darn landing area drops away so fast that some planes just accelerate the whole way down to the ground. Eventually you just landing with more energy than you would like. If your model is over a moderate wing loading it just will not tolerate and hover landing. Oddly the lighter models can be very easy to land here. For something like the Jester, you probably want to land over on the right outside the fence where you can burn off energy.
I'm in! Lemme know.We still gotta find a spot to fly our scales. They're gonna look nice together in the sky. I know it's extra far from you but I think that Banos might be the way. Right on... Yeah, I'm not gonna try to fly my Ash there, that's for sure, but I am gonna be bringing my Jester if I can figure out where to land it. Jester Michael is gonna be there and I know he flies his... We shall see.Sunset is maybe not the best place to fly a big scale model as they tend to be heavy and lack good flaps. The bushes at Sunset look kind of soft, but they are sort of narly coastal shrubs with sandy gaps between them. Ok for smaller planes, but not the best for the bid stuff. Landing inside the fence tends to be the prefered landing method for the composite models. Don't let us scare you on this, it is all very doable, and while the landing area is tight, people are pretty good about keeping it clear.
Hell yeah!I'm in! Lemme know.
All the gliders are made for re-kitting at one time or another. Landing at Sunset is funI will. I'm planning on buying a glider from Wayne that will be for that purpose. Hopefully will be picking it up this week.
I feel like sunset is more difficult than i remember Tick being.
