A few gliders to sell

Hank GB Z

Very Strong User
Ok I’m trying to make a little more room in the garage. So I’m starting to sell some stuff.

Here are two gliders I’ll probably never build.

First is a micro Sinbad from Alien Technologies. If you go on RCG you’ll find a thread on this model. It’s a cool kit and I bought it when I was really into small gliders. Looks like a bit of the motor mount is missing and some glue got on the center wing sheeting. I’ll throw in a good piece of 1/32 to replace it just cut out what you need. Everything else is there. I’ll sell this kit for 30 bucks plus shipping.

Next up is a vintage Gentle Lady kit. I haven’t done a full inventory but it appears to be complete. I got this out of an estate in my club. I’ll sell this one for 50 bucks plus shipping (OBO).

I live in Orange County so if somebody wants to meet for a pickup I can arrange that inside of OC. Other wise shipping is at cost. I get a price from USPS and that’s what I’ll charge who buys it. Or you can arrange your own shipping. I’m attaching pictures.

Hank

The Sinbad has a 31” wingspan and is designed around a “brick” from a foamy of your choice. One can build it for other 1s sets up though. Just be mindful of the weight.

The Gentle lady is a classic 2M woody.

Like I need one! I'll take the micro Sinbad. I really loved my SIg Sinbad 40 from my youth.

I still have my Sinbad 40 free-flight towline glider that I built as a youngster in the 1960s in Pacific Palisades, California.
The fuselage structure was a good "next step up" challenge for me. 40"wingspan, balsa, Ambroid, and light silkspan. She flew very well, as anyone would imagine seeing the classic lines, shapes, curves of the plane. A birthday gift or a Christmas gift -- my dad always gave me a challenging kit! He is 93 and still with us.
My Sinbad 40 was a SIG model company reissue of the original kit by Berkeley Models, which was designed by the late, great Mr. Henry Struck. I feel so fortunate that I was able in more recent years to meet Henry and even fly models with him here in New England with the Glastonbury Modelers, Glastonbury, Connecticut.

Loved the crutch construction. Also liked how the keel cap made covering so much easier.
I love meeting the movers and shakers of our hobby.

Hank, got the CARE package. All is in good shape.

I'm a bit confused as to why the micro Sinbad has some deviation to the original design. Not placing any value on the changes just noticing the changes. The rear area under the wing just looks odd when looking at a Sinbad.

Konrad,

Glad everything arrived in good order. As for the design changes I don’t know. I’ll read through the RCG thread see if any light can be shed.

Hank

Konrad,

No mention of changing the tail size. He did say he started from the Sig plan not the Berkeley plan so I don’t know if that’s the difference.

Hank

As far as I have seen there is no difference whatsoever in the vintage Berkeley vs Sig kit plans for the now-ancient Sinbad 40; both are faithful to Henry Struck's original design. But, as Konrad notes, Red Jensen's recent "Micro Sinbad" design introduces some changes.

I bought Red's Micro Aquil" short-run laser-cut kit and it, too, is quite different than Lee Renaud's original Aquila series. I haven't built it yet -- but -- IMHO, the best thing about Red's Micro Aquila kit I see so far is 1.) its raw simplicity -- good for low-stress building, especially for a anyone new to such work; 2.) the precise laser-cutting of quite thin and lightweight wood; 3.) the VERY thorough downloadable instruction manual -- Red clearly has put a LOT of care into making it. Lots of helpful tips for us non-experts.
My only criticism is the lack protection in and around the box I received in the mail -- the delicate thin balsa parts just flop around and the laser stuff had come loose from its moorings.

The biggest change I see is the cross section of the fuselage at the trailing edge of the wing has been changed from a triangular one to a rectangular one. This really changes the whole look of the aft turtle deck.

I see what you’re talking about now. Like I said before it was either to ease building or make the space big enough to put the brick in.

Not a big deal. I think the change was to allow the wing a larger purchase (mounting pad).

Payment on its was! Thanks for the nice kit.

All the best,
Konrad
